No matter what you do in this life you will always be judged. Whether you choose to work in an office from 9 to 5 or quit your job to start your own business, whether you marry young or choose not to marry at all, whether you have kids or decide not to, whatever it is that you choose for yourself, there will always be critics.
Now, I write all of this not to seem like a total pessimist, but to make a point. Regardless of what you choose to do with your life, you will be judged. So if something matters to you, do it. Enjoy it. Don’t let what other say (or even that little negative voice inside your own head) get in the way. Follow your heart.
Don’t miss out on anything due to your fear of what others might think. This, of course, is easier said than done and I still struggle with it sometimes. The important thing is that you keep pushing through it. It is far better to be criticized for doing what you enjoy, than to live the life others want for you and be unhappy.
A wise woman once said:
“Do what you feel in your heart to be right- for you’ll be criticized anyway. You’ll be damned if you do, and damned if you don’t.”
So let’s make Eleanor Roosevelt proud. Get out there and follow your heart.
What things have you been holding back on because of other people’s opinions?
