How to stick to your Fitness Routine

January 26, 2017

Let’s face it. The new year is always met with “new me” resolutions. Many of which consist of starting a fitness routine. Unfortunately, motivation can quickly run out and by February most routines have been abandoned. Here are some simple tips to ensure you stick to your fitness routine in 2017.

How to stick to your fitness routine

Start Early

Get your body moving first thing in the morning and that way nothing can get in the way of your workout later on. Scheduling it in to the beginning of your day makes it hard to skip a workout.

Start Small

If you are new to working out, it’s important that you slowly settle into a more active lifestyle. You don’t want to hurt yourself and you certainly don’t want to scare yourself away from exercising. Don’t expect to lift 50 pounds or run a mile straight on day one. Try a simple 15 minute workout on the first day and see how it feels the next day. Keep building from there.

Make it fun

If you like swimming, setting yourself a swimming routine would be a wonderful way to get active. Don’t try to set a weightlifting routine if it makes you miserable. Start off with things you enjoy and later on you can push yourself out of your comfort zone.

Buddy Up

Having an accountability partner is a great way to ensure that you don’t miss a workout. It also makes workouts way more fun! If the people around you don’t seem interested, there are a ton of Facebook groups you can join full of supportive women. Search for a group, join, and participate!

Celebrate/ Reward yourself

Once you get through your first month of consistent workouts don’t forget to reward yourself! Get yourself a cute exercise outfit or this cute glass water bottle. You’ve done a great thing and are on your way to a happier, healthier you!

Those are great tips! I used to workout first thing in the morning pre-baby and I miss that. Now I workout at the gym we have at work in the afternoon cause I get the gym all to myself. 🙂

It’s definitely key! If you throw yourself into too much too soon it can be demotivating.

this is the hardest thing for me! I know how important it is but I think of everything else I need to do!

    • Reply Karen Aileen January 28, 2017 at 5:19 pm

Hey Kimberly, I agree it can be so hard to make time for things like this when you have so much else going on. What works best for me is waking up an hour earlier than usual. I do a quick workout and then get ready for the day. Thanks for stopping by!
